Base Foam Types
Most Popular Foam Comparison
Applications: Good for heavier objects that need to be snugly secured in place and objects that can absorb a modest amount of shock
Surface: Smooth (similar to a pool noodle feel)
Colors Available: Black, Blue, Red, Yellow
Density: High
Cell Type: Closed
Moisture Resistance: High
TopGuard PE Foam is a dense closed-cell foam that is our recommended standard for most applications. It is moderately pliable and offers a secure, snug fit known for greater durability and stronger cavities.
The top layer of a TopGuard PE Foam insert consists of a high density 1/4 inch color topper laminated to standard density Black Polyethylene foam. The top face of the foam and the top face inside of the cutouts will be in the TopGuard color of your choice. The sides of the foam and the sides of the cutouts will be black.
Applications: Good for heavier objects that need to be snugly secured in place with similar protection to TopGuard and a more premium look
Surface: Smoothest (suede-like feel)
Colors Available: Black
Density: High
Cell Type: Fine Closed
Moisture Resistance: High
ProCell Foam is a closed-cell, irradiated crosslink material with a high level of rigidity and stability. It is similar in density to TopGuard (PE), but has smaller cells that give it a consistent, suede-like finish and premium look.
ProCell is available for an additional charge when purchasing foam to fit a specific case (make/model). The price is about 25% higher than TopGuard PE or Ester.
ProCell is not suitable for industrial use as the foam surface may pit or scar from rough handling; rather, it is more suitable where a professional look is required, such as for presentation or sales rep cases.
Applications: Good for more delicate (e.g., crystal stemware) or irregularly-shaped objects (e.g., digital SLR camera) that may break on modest impact
Surface: Semi-smooth (sponge-like feel)
Colors Available: Charcoal
Density: Low
Cell Type: Open
Moisture Resistance: Low
Charcoal Ester Foam is more spongy and pliable, exhibiting excellent shock absorption and malleability for delicate objects like glass.
It is a soft, low-density foam that requires more space between objects within, in general. As an open-cell foam, Charcoal Ester has less moisture resistance, absorbing water or other fluids.
